The California Highway Patrol report that a woman was killed in an accident on Highway 101 in Gilroy on Feb. 6. They indicate that the crash happened at 8:40 a.m. near Masten Avenue.
The police believe that the cause of the crash was a pickup truck that was driving in the right lane of the highway when they veered onto the shoulder for unknown reasons. The driver attempted to get back on the road but overcorrected, traveling into the left lane and striking a blue Honda SUV in the side. The resulting collision caused both vehicles to roll over. They both went into the center of the highway where they came to rest.
The woman driving the SUV lost her life in the accident. The person driving the truck had to be transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The CHP announced that they were investigating the accident, but they did not give any reason to believe that intoxicants such as drugs or alcohol were involved on the part of either driver. No other people were reported to have been involved.
Families who have lost loved ones in fatal accidents may be able to collect fair financial compensation from the responsible parties. If they choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the liable person or people, then the assistance and representation of an attorney at law may be of help. The attorney would be able to negotiate with the defendant or defendants on their client's behalf, attempting to reach a settlement that is acceptable to the bereaved. If the defendant is not willing to pay reasonable redress for the loss of their family member, then the attorney may be able to help them bring their case to trial.
