A fatal bus accident in California may have been the result of fatigued driving, according to an initial investigation. The accident took place on Nov. 23 when a 67-year-old tour bus driver lost control along Interstate 5 near the Oregon border. After drifting off the right shoulder, the bus fell down an embankment and then flipped onto its roof.
The bus accident resulted in the death of a 33-year-old man. An estimated 30 passengers as well as the bus driver were injured in the crash.
According to a police officer in Red Bluff, the same bus driver had been involved in a separate accident earlier that same day. Approximately 50 miles south of where the fatal accident took place, the bus driver had hit a restaurant overhang. Property damage in the first collision was minor, and no people were injured. Before the accidents, the tour bus driver had been in the middle of a trip from Los Angeles to Pasco, Washington.
When someone is killed in a bus accident, the deceased person's family members might decide to seek some monetary compensation for their loss from the liable parties. In some situations, the bus driver and the company that individual was working for may both hold liability for passenger injuries and deaths. An attorney might help a family who has lost a loved one in a bus accident to determine all of the parties that are liable for the death. The compensation that could be awarded might help a family with funeral and medical expenses as well as for their loss of financial support.
