If a driver suffers injuries in a motor vehicle accident, that driver may wish to consult with a personal injury attorney to talk about his or her options moving forward. It may be possible to take legal action against the driver responsible for the accident. Talking to an attorney may also make it possible for a victim to take action in a timely manner to ensure that all laws regarding statute of limitations in personal injury cases are being followed.
In some cases, it may be possible to negotiate a settlement with the insurance company or with the driver directly if his or her insurance policy does not cover all the costs that the victim may incur. Whether a financial award comes in the form of a negotiated settlement or is awarded by a jury after a trial, that award may cover the cost of medical bills incurred, long-term care expenses as well as punitive damages.
