The lives of two teenagers were taken when a dump truck crashed into a car in Cajon Pass, and three other people were injured in the accident. The accident occurred on June 24, and authorities believe that the crash happened before 12 a.m.
According to reports, a PT Cruiser that was occupied by five people was traveling west on Highway 138 when a dump truck that was traveling on the southbound ramp of Interstate 15 hit the car. The dump truck rolled the car and then landed on top of it. Emergency officials who responded to the crash pronounced an 18-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy who were in the Cruiser dead at the scene. The other three occupants were taken to a local hospital by ambulance, and one of the injured was released a short time later. The driver of the truck was not hurt.
According to reports, all five individuals in the Cruiser had attended Serrano High School in Phelan, and a vigil for the deceased victims was scheduled at the school soon after the crash. An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
The families of individuals who are killed in car accidents may be able to seek compensation for damages through a wrongful death lawsuit. In this case, if it is determined that the dump truck's driver was at fault in the crash, that person might be held liable for the costs funeral and burial expenses of the deceased victims' families. The plaintiffs might also be awarded additional compensation for loss of companionship, assistance and comfort.
