An automobile accident in San Bernardino has claimed the life of a local man and sent another to the hospital. According to police reports, the wreck happened at 7:10 p.m. on June 16.
Police said the car crash occurred in the Shandin Hills neighborhood of San Bernardino as a 30-year-old man was driving north on Little Mountain Drive. After he passed the Bond Street intersection, it is believed that his vehicle crossed over the double-yellow line and struck an oncoming vehicle. Police also said that speed seems to have played a role in the accident.
The force of the collision killed the driver and seriously injured the driver of the second vehicle, a 21-year-old local man. There was also a passenger in the second car, though the source did not mention that person's physical condition after the accident. The investigation of the incident was ongoing as of June 17, and police released a statement that said they do not have reason to believe drugs or alcohol were involved.
The man who was injured in the accident may choose to seek legal recourse from the estate of the decedent. He could file a personal injury suit seeking damages for medical expenses and any needed property replacement caused by the accident. The police's suspicion that speed factored into the accident would be of particular note in civil litigation that stemmed from this incident. A trial could be necessary to examine the incident and apportion blame. Or, the party, or parties, representing the decedent's estate could decide to settle out of court with the injured victim if he threatened a civil suit.
